As of today, there are thousands of objects we have put into orbit around the Earth. Only about a thousand of these are functional satellites. . On any given night, there are dozens of artificial satellites whizzing overhead that approach naked eye visibility. Some are as bright as the International Space Station. Some are barely visible even in dark skies. One website that is most helpful in planning your satellite viewing is Heavens Above. You can customize the site for your own observing location.
