Planetary Astronomy is offered in the fall semester at Cranbrook Kingswood. If you are a visitor to my site, welcome. Feel free to look around. I hope you find these pages to be useful. If you are taking a course in Astronomy, you will find hundreds of useful links for your studies.
Welcome to Planetary Astronomy with a new reality in the era of Covid-19. Today we will just get aquainted (virtually). I’ll give you a realy quick overview of how the semester will proceed. You will be making many observations on your own and entering them into your class notebook. This is a new version of what I have had my Planetary Astronomy class do for many years now. Consider the online version to be a beta test. Note that your first assignment, (on CranNet) is to download and become familiar with the Stellarium app which is available on a number of platforms. I’ll take you through that today for a bit. You do know that both Jupiter and Saturn are now prominent in the southern sunset sky, don’t you? Be prepared to make some measurements of the sky.
