The Artemis program is about to begin in earnest with the launch of Artemis 1, an uncrewed mission to test the rocket and the Orion capsule which will carry humans in the near future. As you know, the launch has been delayed a couple of times already. But next week, November 16, has been set as a new launch date for the mission. Eventually, a human crew will be launched using the SLS booster with the Orion spacecraft at the top of the stack. The current plan is for the first crew to just orbit around the Moon to check out the spacecraft and its systems. When all components are deemed to be ready, then a crew of human beings will head to the Moon. It will be the HLS (human landing system), designed and built by Space X, that will carry humans to the surface. Once there, the eventual plan is to build a Lunar Base Camp with all of the comforts of home. The lunar explorers will also have a rather comfortable lunar rover, designed by Toyota. Why are we going back to the Moon when we have already been there?
