Uranus in June
Still An Early Morning Object
Uranus is in the morning sky as June begins. It will reach opposition on November
13 this year. The giant ice planet is currently in Aries and will be there for a while.
Uranus resides in each of the twelve zodiacal constellations for an average of seven years
each. Here’s a chart showing the positions of the next dozen or so oppositions.
The distant planet is a challenging object at any time. It’s just a bit too faint to see
for most of us, but if your eyesight is sharp, you could spot it without optical aid. With a
proper star chart and a small telescope, the rest of us should be able to spot it.
The pronunciation of this planet has been the butt of many jokes.
