Mars is sinking into the western sky after sunset as the month begins. The Red Planet was in opposition with the Sun on January 19, headed for conjunction with the Sun early next year.. Even in a small telescope, it is possible to see the polar ice caps of the Red Planet. Here’s a video that will give you a good idea of what the view through a modest sized telescope might look like.
