Mars in November
Opposition in the New Year Mars rises just before midnight local time in November. In the next few months, Mars will rise a few minutes earlier every day. The Red Planet will be at opposition on January 19 of 2025. On that day Mars will, of course, rise when the Sun sets. That’s what opposition is all about. Even in a small telescope, it is possible to see the polar ice caps of the Red Planet. Here’s a video that will give you a good idea of what the view through a modest sized telescope would look like.
