Saturn rises late in the evening which makes its prime viewing time an hour or two before sunrise. It will be in opposition to the Sun in the third week of September. . It’s always a treat to see the rings. I am constantly amused and pleased at the reaction when someone gets a look through a telescope for the first time. Oh yes, it is quite possible to see Saturn’s rings, even in a small telescope. But you might need a little guidance if you have not tried before. Sky & Telescope magazine offers this help .
